Séamus’ G6 Series Presentation

Séamus Byrne talks at a g6series event

Seamus Byrne — Creative director at Graphic Mint from Eoghan Hickey on Vimeo.

Recently, I was invited to talk about Interaction Design in Dublin and Interaction12. This talk was recorded as part of the g6Series of talks, and events, which are held monthly (during the college year) in DIT, Mountjoy Square. The g6Series is quite a laid back event, with speakers from a range of design disciplines.

Thanks to @eoghanjhickey and the @paperfreeproject for recording this, and here is their description of my talk…

“During his talk, Séamus discusses the perception of Ireland as a country. That although we are known for music, arts, and craft, we are slightly underrepresented as a design city. He goes on to discuss his role as an interaction designer, what it means, and the difficulties involved.

The role interaction designer is one that hasn’t existed very long. Séamus compares it to the plight of usability professionals who have gone before, people aren’t too sure what Interaction Design is, and are naturally a little apprehensive to hire one, and so the responsibility falls to the designer to educate the client.

At the end of this talk, Séamus talks briefly about the upcoming IxDA conference in Dublin in 2012. This is the first time that the conference will be held outside of America, and is quite an achievement, so fair play to everyone involved in making it happen.

Séamus blogs at graphicmint.com/design-thinking/ , and tweets on Twitter as @SeamusByrne.”
