Ah, college, those were the days, right? Everyone here at Graphic Mint has fond memories of our days at college. Studying at a high level institution must be one of the top goals for everyone, either for themselves or for their children. It’s no easy task getting there, so once you achieve that you must make the most of the time you are there. Students need to prepare in every possible way and no matter the area you are studying, science, arts, business, etc., there’s something you absolutely have to be good at: writing. Expressing yourself with a pen or with a keyboard or verbally, is a fundamental skill that any college student needs and that is the main objective of our latest website.
We are really proud of presenting the College Writing Programs website for the University of California in Berkeley, one of the most prestigious universities in the United States, if not the world. In this site, students can look for courses designed to improve their writing, reading and oral speaking skills, key aspects in the formation of any college student. Users can also find information about all the lecturers and staff members, access digital media (PDF documents, video and audio files) and a lot of useful information related to the writing community living in California.
One important requirement for this project was the ability to edit information (course information, for instance) in just one place but present it in various ways and different places. We decided the best way of implementing this was to use a Content Management System known as Drupal. Drupal has a mode called Views that offers an amazing amount of customisation options and ways of presenting blocks in a lot of dynamic ways. This might not be so noticeable for the website user, but it’s a relief for the people responsible in updating and editing the page for future semesters!
There’s a special feeling when you build or design something that is going to be useful for students. Our future as a society and species depends pretty much on them, so we better give them the best options available to make them better professionals in the future. We hope this website will make the college experience a little bit easier and nicer to look at for all the Berkeley students. And if you are not a Berkeley student, go ahead, check out the website anyway, you might learn a thing or two about the life in California or even a few tips on how to improve your writing skills!
